Overview 

The Synaptics Wi-Fi team is looking for a highly skilled Wi-Fi Application Engineer to join our team and contribute to Customer feature development and debugging of our wireless networking products. This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of a global team working to create revolutionary products. In this role, you will be working in the Wi-Fi Application Engineering team responsible for Wi-Fi driver debugging and customer support to productize the latest generation of IoT Wi-Fi products. This position reports to the Director, Software Engineering.

The typical base pay range for this position is USD $142,000 - $223,300 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.

Responsibilities & Competencies 

Job Duties 
  • Interact directly with customers to debug customer features and issues as well as new customer feature work 
  • Successfully manage customers and their issues, building a trusted working relationship with customers; Be the first line of defense before involving the Core engineering team 
  • Clearly articulate (replicate) customer issues/requests back to core engineering with a clear set of logs, sniffer traces, and platform dependencies 
  • Own Wi-Fi Host driver porting and debug on various platforms with Free-RTOS/zephyr/Linux/Android  
  • Visit Customer sites to reproduce, debug, and fix issues locally in the field 
 
Competencies 
  • Strong understanding of Wi-Fi protocol concepts
  • Solid understanding of Software system architecture and Embedded Systems
  • Strong C Programming skills
  • Linux Kernel Programming and in-depth understanding of OS/RTOS concepts
  • Excellent debugging and analytical abilities
  • Hands on experience in collecting Wi-Fi sniffer traces and analyzing
  • Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate
  • Positive attitude and work ethic; unafraid to ask questions and explore new ideas
  • Resourceful and able to solve complex problems through adapting technology and a solid understanding of product architecture
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, in English
  • Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse cross-functional team  
 
Qualifications (Requirements) 
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science/Electronics Engineering or related field or equivalent 
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience 
  • Demonstrated experience building strong relationships with customers to facilitate bug fixes and new feature development 
  • Strong proficiency in C programming language 
  • Experience with embedded systems and real-time operating systems (RTOS) 
  • In-depth knowledge of Wi-Fi protocols (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) 
  • Hands on experience working with Wi-Fi host drivers and device firmware 
  • International and domestic travel up to 30% required
