Overview 

Synaptics is looking for a Sr. Staff Hardware Engineer to join our dynamic and growing organization. You will be responsible for WLAN/BT hardware application design including PCB board design, hardware/RF performance tuning, generic customer issue debug related to HW design, and FCC/CE certification tasks. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Hardware Development. 

Responsibilities & Competencies 

Job Duties

 

  • Board level RF/Circuit hardware design for WLAN/BT chip solution, RF performance qualification and optimization on board level for both customer and internal reference WLAN and BT combo designs 
  • Understand customer HW/RF test plan, assist customer in full phase of Hardware validation and evaluation, co-work with customer in HW related issue debug and passing all required RF certifications 
  • Responsible for delivering regulatory and commercial certifications for connectivity such as FCC/CE, Wi-Fi Alliance, BT SIG 
  • Take full ownership for customer issues and drive across internal teams for resolution= 
  • Provide hardware technical guidance in chip/board development process and chip bring-up, leverage your broad expertise in system tuning and optimization. 

 

Competencies

 

  • Familiar with PCB board design, including different EDA tool and layout rule  
  • Experience with system test, troubleshooting and root cause analysis of wireless hardware at the PCB and module level 
  • Deep understanding of system level RF parametric (power, sensitivity, EVM, etc.) and the impact they have on the overall system 
  • Familiar with RF filter, PA, LNA, Switch …RF components 
  • Familiar with RF matching/tunning for optimal RF performance 
  • Specification level understanding of multiple wireless technologies such as cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 
  • Previous product experience in WiFi or BT technologies 
  • Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment to complete projects on time with minimal guidance
  • Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate
  • Positive attitude and work ethic; unafraid to ask questions and explore new ideas
  • Resourceful and able to solve complex problems through adaptation of existing technology and investigation of new technology to resolve complex problems 
  • Ability to work with dynamic, geographically distributed teams, with the passion to become part of cross-functional teams as necessary to ensure testability  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex interactive design concepts clearly

 

Qualifications (Requirements)

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent 
  • 12+ years of experience in Consumer, or related industries that involve embedded systems with cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 
  • Experience using RF equipment, WiFi and BT testers such as Litepoint/Qxel, R&S CMW500, and CAD tools such as Mentor, Allegro, OrCAD, PADS, etc. 
  • Proven track record of presenting to both technical and product level teams at the appropriate level of detail 
  • No travel required
