Overview 

Synaptics is looking for a physical layer standards engineer to join our dynamic and growing organization. You will be representing Synaptics in the standards bodies like IEEE and BT-SIG. You will track the new developments in the standards and will be responsible for simulation of the new features. You will also be responsible for bringing new features to the standards bodies meeting that align with Synaptics vision. This position reports to the Sr. Director, WLAN System Algorithms and Architecture.  

The typical base pay range for this position is USD $120,000 - $188,100 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. 

Responsibilities & Competencies 

Job Duties

  • Track and analyze the IEEE 802.11 and BT-SIG and CSA standards 
  • Communicate the new features and developments in the standards bodies to the Synaptics team 
  • Develop simulation platforms for new standards’ features 
  • Provide direction and ideas for new features that align with Synaptics road map

Qualifications (Requirements) 

  • PhD in any field related to communication theory or related experience
  • 0-2 years of experience in Wireless communication and signal processing algorithm development 
  • Strong prototyping skills using Matlab/Simulink
  • Must have attended IEEE or other major standard body meetings in the past
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience with working on WiFi-based solutions is a plus
  • Fluent with Python/C/C++ and familiar with TCL
  • Ability to travel up to 30% primarily to Standards conferences
