Overview 
Synaptics is looking for a Global Trade Compliance Director to join our dynamic and growing organization. This role requires a solid understanding of logistics practices and trade regulations in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with internal teams (Operations, Sales, Legal) and external partners (government agencies, logistics providers, and distribution channels) to ensure compliance with global trade regulations. This position reports to the Report to the Deputy General Counsel. 
 
The typical base pay range for this position is USD $150,000 - $236,500 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. 
  
 
Responsibilities & Competencies 
Job Duties 
  • Define and implement a comprehensive trade compliance strategy aligned with U.S. and international laws (e.g., EAR, ITAR, OFAC, sanctions, customs regulations) 
  • Support the implementation and day-to-day management of export, import, and sanctions compliance policies and procedures aligned with U.S. and international regulations 
  • Oversee the process of ECCN classifications, license determinations, and technical reviews of semiconductor chips, technology, and related software 
  • Coordinate license applications and maintain related documentation and status tracking 
  • Provide guidance on international transactions, export shipments and cross-border transfers for compliance with applicable licensing and regulatory requirements including proper handling of deemed exports and re-exports, and appropriate controls for third-party risk management 
  • Collaborate with internal teams (legal, sales, logistics, engineering, supply chain) to support compliant international operations and customer transactions 
  • Provide advice and counsel on screening results for customers, suppliers, etc.

Qualifications (Requirements) 
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent related practical experience; advanced degree relating to trade and export (Law Degree or an MBA specific to Business) or equivalent deep knowledge preferred 
  • Licenses associated with customs brokers are helpful but not necessary 
  • 15+ years of experience in Trade Compliance, Export Compliance, Government Regulatory practices, Customs, and International Trade Treaties 
  • 10+ years of management-level responsibilities for all trade/export control regulations: EAR, ITAR, OFAC, ECCN, HTS, and export license determinations desired 
  • Strong understanding of U.S. export control regulations (BIS, EAR) and freight forwarding best practices 
  • Experience with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) 
  • Experience using screening tools and conducting Red Flag evaluations and strategy development for manufacturing environments 
  • Ability to develop and operate comprehensive programs, train and audit programs, and speak publicly 
  • Industry leadership activities a plus (panels, speaking engagements, etc.) 
  • No travel required
