Overview 

Synaptics is actively seeking a Sr. System Architecture Director to shape the future of Astra Edge-AI processors. The Edge Processing Division at Synaptics is developing high-performance Linux processors (MPU) as well as high-performance microcontrollers (MCU) that are built with AI from the ground up. The role requires broad knowledge around processors, AI-compute, software (Linux, RTOS, applications), on-device security, and power management. This position reports to the VP, Technology and Innovation. 

 

The typical base pay range for this position is USD $225,000 - $353,100 per year. Individual pay is determined by many factors including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus, equity, and other benefits. Note that compensation listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. 

  

 

Responsibilities & Competencies 

Job Duties

  • Define innovative architectures and system solutions for a whole family of NPU and MCU products for the Edge Processing Division 

  • Partner closely with product, engineering, sales, and customers to define product requirements that result in world-class products 

  • Define and drive the overall architecture strategy for the Division and the company, including MCU's, MPU architectures, AI concepts, and wireless connectivity 

  • Manage the security architecture for processors, including encryption, authentication, protection of customer data, and life-cycle management through the supply chain 

  • Drive innovation and identify new technologies and trends in processor architecture, Arm, RISC-V, and DSP cores that can be incorporated into our semiconductor products 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional SW and AI teams to ensure successful customer enablement, and ease of use for products 

  • Create a top-level SW HW partition ensuring the system meets memory, power, and other real time constraints 

  • Engage in the packaging, system design, and memory to provide a complete platform solution 

  • Engage with key customers and drive thought leadership of Synaptics in the industry 

  • Mentor and influence team members to ensure continued growth and success

  • Strong interpersonal skills and exceptional communication that is clear, concise, and compelling 

  • Experienced at working effectively across multiple levels of an organization and building successful cross functional partnerships

 

Qualifications (Requirements) 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field or equivalent 

  • 15+ years’ experience in semiconductor architecture, with a focus on MCU's, MPU architectures, AI concepts, and wireless connectivity including 7+ years leading teams 

  • Strong leadership and cross-functional team management skills, with experience in influencing product teams 

  • Strong track record of working in a fast-paced, innovative environment with a focus on delivering high-quality products 

  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and trends in the semiconductor industry 

  • Domestic and international travel may be required
